ARC Review of Janet Dailey's LONG, TALL CHRISTMAS #FaLaLaFridays #CowboysNCountry #XmasBookReview #ContemporaryWesternRomance

Happy Friday!  As this is my first post on Fa-La-La Friday, please let me explain.  I LOVE Holidays.  Holidays of all kinds, big or small.  I especially love the Christmas Holidays and last year due to circumstances beyond my control, my family and I kinda got gypped.

Nobody gets gypped this year!

I wanted to share some of my overflowing Holiday joy with you, my readers.  So starting this week and running until January 1st, EVERY FRIDAY I will post a new Holiday book - maybe TWO - I've read and reviewed to help y'all get just a little extra Christmas Spirit.  You don't celebrate Christmas?  That's okay.  They are not all Christmas books.  Some are about the joy of Winter and the fun it brings.  Others, the happiness that can surround the Christmas Holidays, with or without religion thus we are calling this event FA-LA-LA FRIDAYS, okay?  So grab some of my virtual hot cocoa, marshmallows and cookies (I do love those little marshmallows bobbing in my hot cocoa, don't you?) then sit back and see what book I have for you today!

Let's start out with...

This Christmas, wrap yourself in love…

Facing foreclosure on her California home, widowed Kylie Wayne is grateful to accept her aging aunt Muriel’s offer to come back to small-town Branding Iron, Texas, and help out on the ranch. But when an early storm rolls in, Kylie’s dream of a perfect Christmas for her kids is blown away with the unexpected snow. Comfort and joy seem unlikely, unless a certain long, tall Texan with a bad boy’s charm can rope some holiday cheer…

No one imagined restless, independent Shane Taggart would work his parents’ ranch all these years. But with his father gone, Shane is ready to sell his land and see the world—until sweet, sexy Kylie shows up. The dutiful good girl he remembers has turned into a spirited woman, and Shane wants to give her the warm family future she longs for, puppy and all. One kiss under the mistletoe may not convince her, but Shane knows that love is a gift that will last forever…

Review:

Nothing like having everything that could possibly go wrong occur to try and put you in the Grinchy spirit but now single mom Kylie is committed to making this be a 'great Christmas' for her overwhelmed teen/tween kids.  Her husband died the year before while serving in the Army and in the end they moved to rural Texas to live with her only living relative, Aunt Muriel.  Arriving only days before Christmas, Kylie was trying to hold it all together even though it seemed even Mother Nature had it in for her, having buried the entire area in two feet of snow and freezing temperatures, keeping Christmas gifts from arriving and them needing to be creative at best for warmth, entertainment and a little bit of Christmas Cheer. Her kids were bored and missing their friends, not understanding in typical self-centered teen fashion, why this was all happening to them.

Shane Taggart was a local Kylie knew from her childhood there in Branding Iron, TX.  All through school, he was the local bad boy, the one she'd had an unrequited crush on.  He thought she was Miss Perfect and would never be seen with the likes of him, the town bad boy.  While he'd had plans to blow that one-horse town, his dad having a major stroke had caused him to stay, working the ranch and growing up in the meanwhile.  Now he stops in to check on Muriel and her handy man Henry regularly and helps them out.

Kylie ran into him literally almost as soon as she got back in town, crunching his beloved motorcycle.  The snow however, causes them to be snowed in together at Muriel's and he starts to see that she's grown up too, it all sorts of good ways.  He finds himself drawn to helping her more and more.  They even have a moment or two alone to talk then before you know it they are drawn to each other and kiss... Before you know it, Christmas starts looking up.  For as the Grinch learns, Christmas comes from the heart.

This is a wonderful double love story filled with characters to warm your heart.  Janet's gift for writing phenomenal stories with smart and witty dialog is present as always.  The story line is tight and bustles with appropriate tension.  This would be a sweet and welcomed holiday gift for almost anyone, including yourself, helping to lift spirits and help us all remember that Christmas indeed is a gift of the heart.
